Good question. I have no idea what types of simultaneous user counts to expect in the streaming radio world (college or otherwise). On our initial test station, which just ran a bunch of mixed-quality stuff on random play through iTunes, we got 20 or so. Last place I worked, we had a few million at ...

Multi-stream package deals?

Our upcoming college radio station is going to have four Shoutcast streams. Are there any streaming hosts that will allow us to share slots across those four streams as a package deal? EGIHosting already said no, and Fastserv hasn't returned a phone call from Friday...

Disadvantages of hosted streams?

We\'re setting up a colo for our radio web site, which is going to run a lot of custom software. Bandwidth at colos gets very expensive (on the order of $8-$15 per megabit), so I\'m checking out streaming hosts like egihosting and fastserv to relay our streams; they\'re much more affordable, of cour...

Looks like this is a firewall config problem. Using a command-line streamripper tool connecting with "User-Agent: iTunes" gives the same problems, but connecting with "User-Agent: jTunes" works fine.

So never mind. Argh.

no, the problem is likely in the decode process of itunes. Windows media player has this sort of affliction with vbr streams (which is why I mentioned it) Nope, it's 320k, not VBR - and the headers from Shoutcast confirm it. The stream stops only because iTunes stops actively recieving data. Player...

Haven't tried another source for iTunes, but that's a good idea. I have limited access to the Shoutcast server itself (I can't even read the config file) but I can certainly run something else on the Mac. If there were general compatibility problems with Shoutcast and iTunes - as a source, client or...

Shoutcast -> iTunes (only!) causes rebuffering errors

We're running Shoutcast Server 1.9.4 on a reasonably-powered Red Hat machine (2.4.21-4 kernel) with little else running on it. We're currently just broadcasting from iTunes to Shoutcast via Nicecast; the iTunes files are 320k MP3s. (A bit overkill, but that's what we have for now). For some reason, ...
