It's a shame because backup files really help keep users connected and on hold should the source ever get dropped for 20 seconds or so. Most of the really professional stations on Shoutcast seem to use it to good effect. Any idea how well Steamcast does when relaying a Shoutcast server with a backup...

What about the ability to play a backup file when the source disconnects? I'd be using Steamcast full time if it had that.

Or split it. I think it's worthy of further discussion, and my site isn't about broadcasting.

I really don't know. All I know is that a lot of people use the program, and the radio tab sits right out in the open on every install. Also, people seem to make a pretty big deal out of the fact that our largest competitor is listed. A few less savvy listeners I've run into also didn't seem to real...

You guys take things too seriously, I'm just blowing off steam. All I'm saying is you work hard and put a lot of money into a station, and then no one over there has the decency to even respond to such concerns, let alone have a known avenue to pursue this. Jay, when you're strictly looking to have ...

I want to kill everyone on iTunes for thinking they're better than us. If we were listed I wouldn't have to consider closing the station every month. They have plenty of broken links in their directory, and they can't list a station of superior quality because there's no way to ask.

Last night I had Steamcast take over for both of my main servers, and finally learned the true extent of the damage that this bug causes. I started with two Steamcast servers on separate dual-processor shared machines, and that died really fast. What would happen is the first server would let you pl...

The trade-off is that if I get rid of it I lose some of the extra exposure it gives me, forwarding from Icecast and stuff.

It's certifiable. I'll be listening to Shoutcast, and it will suddenly get stuck buffering irrevocably slowly. The second I kill the Steamcast process it springs back into action as if a huge weight is lifted. I'm seriously considering ditching Steamcast for a while, since I'm stuck with my dual pro...

Not to undermine all your hard work, but something needs to be done about this problem. If I hadn't been sitting here listening to it and caught it right now, it probably would have taken my Shoutcast servers down with it for the rest of the day.

Unstable

I left Steamcast running while I was on vacation for a week. I was a little uneasy about it, but I like that Steamcast lists in all the directories and forwards to the main server when full. Like clockwork, this problem happened again while I was gone. I like to have Steamcast running, but this issu...

I've confirmed that it is a dual processor machine. Thank you.

I don't know. Possibly. It's what's called a "Virtual Dedicated Server", so it's shared. (Don't laugh. It works.)

It may not be using CPU like I originally thought, but this is definitely a real problem with Steamcast that I have witnessed on multiple occasions. It causes Steamcast and the Shoutcast it is relaying to not recover from network trouble. The Shoutcast is "released" when you stop Steamcast...

Okay, it happened again. I checked it. It was at 0% and jumped to 0.9 every now and then. This time it seemed to be brought on by sporadic connection from my source prior to the problem -- I was having intermittent connection outages on the source side. Again, the local Shoutcast DNAS it was relayin...
