From the config file:

; SourceBitrateLimit: Set this to have Steamcast kick sources that exceed a
; certain average data rate. This value is based on actual data transfer and not any particular
; format headers. This is a great way to control users in community or hosting

the calculator assumes 24hour days, so just chop the days in half that you want to calculate.

You would consume: 5,932.617 Gbit(s) or 741.577 Gbyte(s) if you use the server 12 hours a day for a full month and completely consumed.

Steamcast/Icecast2 YP Directory Listing Spec [Technical]

Introduction
Following the traditional path of many unicast servers, Steamcast has been designed with the ability to list in central locations. This has the benefit of allowing the deferment of promotion responsibility on third parties, which cuts costs, and it allows listeners to mass themselves ...

You'll have to pester SpacialAudio into supporting Steamcast :)

Radio Toolbox already supports Steamcast so you could use that until they put in support.

if you want it as a start up service you could easily make up a quick start script using an existing script. I don't currently have anything like that but once I do I'll post something up.

the hosting is provided by the networks you see on the host list. This is what gives us the load testing.

We do not use Icecast2, the hosting providers that are in the reviewee service provide SHOUTcast servers.

Our personal server is a Steamcast server which I developed here at radio toolbox. You ...

the server doesn't neccessarily need to be on your computer for you to serve content through it, this is why source programs ask for the server's IP address. So even with a hosting company you will still have full control over the content of the stream, you can even stream from your house or ...

yes it does indeed cost alot, if I were you I would consider starting out much smaller, if you have no capitol to go on.

Check out a few of the stream host providers in our host list and pick out a host and plan that meets your revenue and gives the most bang for your buck.

no, with relays you will have many ways of getting to your stream.

if you want 5000 listeners at 64kbps you will need about 352 Mbps upload from the server. For 500 which is far more realistic you will need about 35Mbps which is equivilent to a T3.

not possible you can play with the calculations at www.radiotoolbox.com/online_tools/bandwidth.php

but 64kbps on a 250kbps upload would give you about 4 listeners capacity.
