sound blaster live & shoutcast

Post by djamps »

Ever since upgrading the drivers on my sound blaster live a month ago I have had endless trouble shoutcasting with the soundcard input. sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. the symptoms are an "electric" sounding type of distortion which comes and goes in the live stream. What I hear is fine, further complicating the issue.

it happens almost every time if I have all the EAS effects disabled -- i.e. original sound is 100% and chorus/reverb is -infinity. Reducing "original sound" to -infinity and running the sound through an effect seems to eliminate the problem completely, but using EAS on a live stream is pretty wack.

Here is a sample of what happens most of the time when I reduce the effects to zero and turn the original sound back on. This doesn't happen all the time, but luckily I was ripping the stream this particular time. There's an echo type effect when the original sound overlaps... this is normal. The distortion when the effect is eliminated is not!! Please note that this happens regardless of encoder bitrate.

Heres what happens when oddcast is used instead -- nothing i do seems to stop it with this plugin (except swapping sound cards of course).

Has anyone had a problem that sounds like this using a SB live or other creative card with shoutcast? Is there ANY WAY i can find the previous version of liveware (with the black control panel) which didn't have this problem???
