Bits & bytes

Post by Marco »

I`m kinda Lost ..
trying to figure out things using the stream calculator

i`m looking for a server to stream on and trying to figure out the numbers
i`m streaming 24 Kbps which imho is 24 Kbit per second.
my server gives me a traffic limit of 10Gb per month imho 10 Giga Byte

i think this is where i go wrong becasuse bandwith and traffic aren`t the same are they ??
other wise it would be 8bit in a byte make 80 000 Gbit
which would make roughly concurrent 1348 listeners a month ..

when i look at the total bandwidth usage in the Current stats of RTB
they confuse me completely and it tells me that with in a few days i got 10 Gb

where do i go wrong in my calculations ??

In general the rule for data traffic is in bytes not bits. maybe I can make some sort of adjustment for this considering most ISP's use Bytes and that number would be more useful. For clarification generally we determine whether we are talking in Bytes or bits in the way the B is cased, like so:

GB = Gigabytes

Gb = Gigabits
