Odd problem with SourceAvgBitrateLimit

Hey all!

Just found steamcast today, and I must say that I\'m highly impressed. Have a bit of an issue that I hope someone can help me resolve!

fair warning, this is a long paste!

i have pretty much rewrote the code there. The problem is that there is an initial spike of data that is not accounted for. For now just disable that feature to keep it from knocking you off.

well, that kinda negates the usefulness of this program, as I had intentions of using it for hosting addons in chunks of kbits. If the stream limiting is overly sensitive, and broken as it seems (I know dang well I wasn\\\'t sending at 1500kbps), then I can\\\'t use it.

Guess I\\\'ll check back in a few months when a couple more revisions have gone by and hopefully the code is fixed.

Thanks

well the next revision has a fix for this.

As with any beta program I really don't think it is production ready, although I really would like people to use it. The more people who use it, the more issues can be resolved and the quicker the pace of development time. On that note, I wouldn't replace a main server or charge for the use of Steamcast on your hosting network until release v1.0

do you have a release schedule for this?

I\'d also like to know if you\'re planning to offer a paid license version that doesn\'t have the overly-broad \"you can use this until we say you can\'t\" terms in it. I can\'t base a business on software that can be yanked out from under me at any time. I\'d really like to discuss this with you in more detail, so please feel free to get ahold of me one of the following ways:

AIM: FirestormSupport
MSN: [email protected]
ICQ: 206000501
Yahoo: firestorm_helpdesk

Thanks for your time!

No, I have no release schedule, I do in my mind but not one I prefer to put in public view.

Development will end once some milestones are passed

1. Steamcast Administrator (API/Application)
2. On-Demand Support
3. Steamcast Stat Service

Once these are complete and some bugs are ironed out I will go release with it. I may push back the administrator to a 1.1 release to allow room for bug fixing the core code. Standardization of all services should be complete by 1.0 and one should feel fairly confident in running steamcast on a network as a main hub server.

With regard to the license, I had not planned to make a pay version as I don't have time to really support nor build out a payment system to handle orders and all that jazz. Free means no overhead for me but I can see where your concern is.

Well, I\'d certainly be interested in a 1 time fee to be granted an alternate license, and I see that as being no more difficult than a single paypal transaction. The choice is obviously yours, please don\'t misunderstand ;)

I\'m certainly willing to help with a large amount of beta testing, if you\'d be willing to provide nightly or even weekly CVS builds? The limiting is a major requirement for my purposes, and yours seems to be the best method for simplicity I\'ve seen as of yet.

Please let me know

well my goal currently is to get out a build once a month. My fear with going any faster is bugs not being caught and stability not truely being tested. My test server generally runs for about 2 weeks before I unleash them on the public.

I have fallen behind on development due some recent life altering situations coming and going at this point. So development has been a lot slower then I had liked.

Perhaps I could do something pay for some type of commercial license such as your case but I couldn't really support it well, I am only one guy. This all depends on a lot of unforseen factors. I would probably be more willing to discuss these types of ideas once I am closer to a 1.0 release.

Now that we\'re getting into the end of May, is there a new release planned that includes the fixed limiting code?
