Extremely short tune-ins

Post by DJNameless »

Hello,

on several radio stations, I watch a curiosity with Radio Toolbox:

There are quite often, sometimes several times per minute, extremely short tune-ins (duration approx. 1-2 seconds). What can this be? I guess:
- buffering,
- search engine bots,
- WLAN radio equipment, smartphone etc. where somebody listens, but the stats counter doesn't work exactly

But perhaps one of the experts here know the correct answer.

Thanks - DJ Nameless (www.musik-train.de)

It could be a number of things, one thing it could possibly be is Radio Toolbox itself. It tunes in to determine the status of the media on the stream.

Radio Toolbox itself can probably be excluded, because it is not always. Sometimes it is not for several hours, then there are hours with 10-20 tune ins per song.

Well, from using Steamcast I can tell you that a number of requests come in from all over that tune in for seconds and leave. Some of these are bots, some legitimate users, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Incidentally mosts servers will ignore these types of connections for statistical purposes.
