Software and Hosting

Post by nitrouk »

Hiya,

I don\'t know if i\'m in the right place, but can anyone recommed any software for DJing but very lite and easy to use just so they can you the mic and stream music. I\'m using shoutcast as the server. Also can anyone recommed any cheap shoutcast hosts.

On another matter can anyone tell me witch would be the best format MP3Pro or AACPlus or another format, I\'m mainly thinking witch would be the best to save bandwidth. Witch software and server support the format? etc.
Thanks

What I would think would work for you....

Hey there nitrouk since it sounds like you are new here is what I would tell you that you should use. First Dj software hmmmmm I would say Winamp for new people I would also use Oddcast for my DSP. The reason I would use Oddcast over Shoutcasts DSP is that you can use alot more different codec (MP3, OGG, AAC, MP3Pro). If I were you I would look into Steamcast not Shoutcast to use. I just find that it works better but what do I know :P . I would look into Ogg format I find it sounds better at a lower rate. Please note that MP3Pro, AACPlus and Ogg will not work in a stream for Windows Media Player. So you will still need a MP3 stream for WMP. Here http://www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts/ is a good place to look for streaming host. You will also need a really good internet speed trust me on that one. Here are some links that might help you out

http://www.winamp.com/

P.S.- I should tell you MP3Pro is almost a dead format AAC plus you need to pay for and Ogg is free 8O .
The Mixture Media Radio:
The best on-line music from the 60's,70's,80's,90's and today. Streaming at 64kbps/48khz (MP3) and 32kbps/44khz (Ogg) 24 hours a day 7 days a week. With great sound and even better music.

I would like a format that could be used in some sort of web player (Flash). Also that Windows Media Player can use or is compactable with (i believe that MP3Pro is but you dont get the same quaitly). I find that Winamp with the plug mite be in hard to use for some of my djs. I just want a simple layout can can be used stand alone with out any plugins.

P.S. Sorry for my spelling ((I Can\'t Spell but don\\\'t tell anyone  ))
Thanks

Hey there honestly I would stay with the MP3 format it works with all the players. Like I said Mp3Pro is not a format that is going to be around for along time.

Hi there nitrouk,

welcome to the world of internet broadcasting.

Our 2 cents worth here -

You said you wanted information on a computer based playout software package that can handle all your requirements whilst broadcasting the signal to a Shoutcast server.

I would certainly recommend - SAM Broadcaster from the guys at Spacialaudio. It is a VERY powerful piece of software that answers all your queries and a whole lot more still - check out (www.spacialaudio.com) for more information on SAM.

It's not free - but you can purchase it in installments - to spread the cost a bit. There's also a time limited demo which will give you a better idea of it's capabilities.

You also asked about hosting. As Nick from Stream Solutions said - you've come to the right place. Radiotoolbox.com has an extensive independent listing of a variety of hosting companies. Well worth a look at.
