Vorbis question

Post by sound selecta »

Looks like streamguys are offering Vobris relays with Icecast2. Im just wondering if I have to re encode my music to Ogg or can I use the Oddcast DSP and use my already riped Mp3's. If I can use my mp3's will the OGG stream sound the same at 32K mono or better.

no, you will not need to reencode the mp3's if you use oddcast. It has been my experience that vorbis sounds a tad better then mp3. They are still tweaking the codec I think.

Vorbis question

A lot of it depends on your source mp3s. Vorbis claims to give you 128kbs mp3 quality at 64kbs, so if you have 128s, don't stream over 64kbs on Vorbis. I listened to a 80VBR cast that Ari was testing, and it sounded excellent. I'm not sure the advantages of lower bitrates using vorbis. Sounds like something to test out!

as far as I know you can't, may check and see if freedomaudio supports it.
