not possible you can play with the calculations at www.radiotoolbox.com/online_tools/bandwidth.php

but 64kbps on a 250kbps upload would give you about 4 listeners capacity.

Not even close to being possible.
With your upload you could serve MAYBE 3 listeners at 64kbps.

how do people have 5,000 listeners?

what about relays?

if i set them up, will i still be able to have 1 address for my stream?

and is there away to send 1 stream out and get the 500 people to "tap" into it and listen, instead of them connect directly to the server

no, with relays you will have many ways of getting to your stream.

if you want 5000 listeners at 64kbps you will need about 352 Mbps upload from the server. For 500 which is far more realistic you will need about 35Mbps which is equivilent to a T3.

wont that costs like £15,000 a month or somthing really high like that. I just need a nice server to have alot of listeners. For the cheapest price, as im still under 18 i dont have a full time job to pay for supper fast connections.

yes it does indeed cost alot, if I were you I would consider starting out much smaller, if you have no capitol to go on.

Check out a few of the stream host providers in our host list and pick out a host and plan that meets your revenue and gives the most bang for your buck.

i used my desktop as a server a about a year ago, with success, it held about 10 listeners, which we used up every night, but i really want a icecast server will fallback, and we choose the mp3s on the playlist. Do hosting companies allow people to do that kind of thing?

the server doesn't neccessarily need to be on your computer for you to serve content through it, this is why source programs ask for the server's IP address. So even with a hosting company you will still have full control over the content of the stream, you can even stream from your house or anywhere else given that the connection your on can handle sending one stream up to the server.

the hosting is provided by the networks you see on the host list. This is what gives us the load testing.

We do not use Icecast2, the hosting providers that are in the reviewee service provide SHOUTcast servers.

Our personal server is a Steamcast server which I developed here at radio toolbox. You can see it at www.steamcast.com and it is compatible with Icecast2 as well as SHOUTcast YP Directory and source tools.

The personal server is www.xrmradio.com:8000
