Icecast 2 Range Request Header

I am interested in the range request feature of Icecast2 but i do not find any info about it.
How the server elaborate the header? What does he do when receive the range request?
I have to do something in the source cliente or luckly betwen libshout and the server manages the request?
Any help will be apreciate.
