Encoder Freezes
Encoder Freezes
I have a brand new Windows 11 laptop and the latest copy of Sam Broadcaster, but the encoder freezes after playing a dozen songs or so. It just freezes in the middle of a song, for no apparent reason, and I have to restart the program. The laptop has plenty of power and resources for the program. Does anyone have any ideas?
Re: Encoder Freezes
No, the VU meters stop bouncing and there is no sound locally. The encoder doesn't show an error, it still says encoding but no sound is going out and the backup files on the server start playing. The program itself doesn't freeze as most buttons still work. However, I can't restart the song, and if I change it to another song, it won't play either, until I restart the program.

Re: Encoder Freezes
Interesting, I've seen both scenarios and usually if the music continues playing it's a network issue between the encoder and the streaming server.
Is your music and database local and on the same laptop?
Does your laptop go into any low power modes? You should definitely (at least while you debug this issue) ensure your laptop is always plugged into a wall and that all power settings that put aspects of the laptop to sleep are disabled.
For clarity I haven't used SAM with Windows 11 yet, but this is a common problem in earlier versions of windows which would cause the program to freeze it's music. Loss of network when accessing a remote DB or remote collection of music would cause everything to stop but the application could still be interacted with. Usually I would have to restart the entire application. So make sure that all settings associated with putting drives to sleep or putting the network to sleep or placing the laptop into any sleep mode are disabled.
