won't start on linux enterprise 3
hmm, I'm doing a simple config, and a couple of weird things are happening and it's not running. I'm going to download it again and try again before I elaborate. The short version is that I'm getting a whole bunch of these "[serv] WARNING: unrecognized configuration input on line 263", and it doesn't run. I removed everything but actual config lines and I still got the error on blank lines. So I removed them too. I for rid of those errors, but it's still not running.
I'll go ahead and redownload/install, and if I still have a problem, I'll post details.

fresh install
this a fresh install. I did this:
cp -a steamcast-default.conf steamcast.conf
and then this:
./steamcast
This is the output:
Those lines seem to correspond to blank lines, but like I said, even if I remove them, it still refuses to run. In that event, I get this:
kernel is 2.4.21-27.EL
cp -a steamcast-default.conf steamcast.conf
and then this:
./steamcast
This is the output:

Just to follow up on this thread.
With Jay's help, it seems that the text files that come with the linux tar contains (CR)(LR) for line endings. Redhat Enterprise 3 doesn't handle the CR's properly, perhaps newer versions filter them, and E3 passes them. I don't know if Jay will choose to patch steamcast to handle this sitation or not. But for others who have this problem, the solution is simple enough. Just remove the CR's. And make sure your text editor does not add them back in.
Thanks Jay! Great stuff. Your efforts with steamcast are appreciated. Now, I'm off to make some backup mounts ...

I came in looking for just this problem, I'm experiencing it as well.Jay wrote:You just need to open each file and modify it on a windows machine and it should then run fine. Modifying the broken extraction will not make it work.
I used ; for blank lines to take care of the problem in the conf file as well as the mimetypes file and the auth file but do I have to edit the steamcast file itself? A text editor won't open that.
EDIT: Scratch that.. my edits to the mimetypes file never saved. She's running now!
