Still dropping after a while.

Steamcast is a stand alone server that combines the features of SHOUTcast and Icecast2 and more to make one mega awesome server.

Still dropping after a while.

Post by webranger »

Well, steamcast still seems to drop after while. It looks like about 36 hours at a whack.

Is there anything I can do to find out why?. Perhaps a way to turn debug logging on or something?.

I've had the latest beta running for a few days. I don't think I've had a steady source on it for 36 hours though. I'm currently at 14 hours with my latest source. If I get it past 36 hours, I'll let you know. (I've disconnected to reconfigure things usually once a day. I'll resist that this time).

It runs along fine, and then for no apparent reason and no error message, it just quits to the command line.

It happened a lot faster today. I only got a few hours, usually it stays up longer. I was thinking about hooking a streamripper to it to see if it's some program that makes it die.

I doubt it though because the failure seems to be at random times. My playlists are not random, so I don't think it's the source files.

Gut reaction..... I still think it has something to do with the source logins.

Are you using YP? Do you get a seg fault error? What does your log file show?

I am getting an error message from the YP handshaking. It just says unknown error in the log. That happens all of the time though and is not the reason for the crash (I think).

When it dies there is no error message..... It just goes south.

EDIT: It's a clean exit, no error message, almost like it was "asked" to quit... gentle .... no big fanfare or segfaults.

I don't expect the source to go more steady than that. The Steamcast server never seems to go down though, if I leave it alone.

Just checking in here. I have let it run quite a long time. It's been very stable for me. I haven't been running YP though.

I believe there is a bug in the online time display. This shouldn't cause a crash but it does cause the number to be accurate. I'll keep a close eye on it when I get back into town. Am at SASS this weekend.

I'm firing this up as a relay this time, so it shouldn't interfere to much with my normal web operations.

It looks to me like some very minor bug. Maybe we can figure out how to squish it.

Is there debug logging that I could turn on?.

no, a very simple debug log is already enabled as part of the beta.

I'll setup a win2k3 server when I get back from SASS and heavily test it.

I think I might be having the same trouble no error message or anything in the log just closes, I have not had mine up for a total of 30+ hrs yet but it quits at radome times, usaly right when I start adding sources.

Example: Clean log and crash/drop right after all sources connect it just stops.

Code: Select all

I don’t know if the windows info will help but its the only thing that appears after Steamcast closes

I'm now running server 2003, and all YP touches are disabled.

If it helps, steamcast seems to be 100% stable when used as a relay server driven by shoutcast.

Ran for days.

interesting, I think I found the problem. It appears that it has something to do with steamcast's meta handling.

Can someone try disabling meta updates via their encoder and varify?

Glad to hear, trying my setup without sending meta data to steamcast I will let you know when I wake up in the morning if I get any more msg errors in windows log or if it keeps on running.

Edit: Update
Last nights with no meta data setup seamed to work steamcast ran all night without closing but as soon as I turned on meta data for shoutcast dsp winamp plug-in and flipped threw a couple of songs it crashed/closed after the Request: /admin.cgi.
