is it just on one particular server or does it do this for all servers?

It was just one server... but it apparently has resolved itself! *boggle* It was surely on my end!

most likely your server was aborting or just not responding to the connection, there is a bug in the beta version which does not terminate the connection properly if this happens. Usually happens when your server or the network it is on is under high load.
